The recent terrorist attack in Sydney, Australia, ended with the loss of three lives and 4 injuries after 16 hours. An event like this is likely to send a flurry of tweets, status updates, and speculation zipping through the web, feeding the instant-gradification culture but along with the normal buzz and information spreading around this unfortunate happening, something new started. Twitter users created #Illridewithyou, a hashtag aiming to connect commuters with Muslims weary of donning their religious garments on public transportation in a meet-up buddy system to dissuade and counter hatred.
