Bioethics Medicine and Law and the LGBT Community —The Time is Now

LGBT Bioethics Cover Image

The Hastings Center recently published a special issue entitled, The Time is Now: Bioethics and LGBT Issues, which aims to open up discussion and encourage colleagues to incorporate topics concerning the LGBT population into curricula and scholarship.  Often underrepresented in course work and articles, it is rare that the academic world focuses on the law, regulations, and ethics in relation to the often oppressed sexual minorities. Read the Special Issue here.

Beyond their special issue, The Hastings Center hosted a symposium on LGBT Bioethics and Human Rights.  You can watch the video of the symposium here. Speakers were award-winning author Andrew Solomon and psychiatrist-bioethicist Tia Powell, of Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.

A roundtable conversation followed with a distinguished panel of respondents:

  • Ram Raju, MD, president and CEO, New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation
  • Jamie Lindemann Nelson, PhD, philosopher, Michigan State University
  • Robert Espinoza, MPA, senior director of public policy and communications, SAGE

View the symposium, moderated by The Hastings Center President Mildred Solomon EdD.
