The Big Lebowski and Philosophy – win a copy

The folks over at Dudeism.com (aka the Church of the Latter-Day Dude) are currently running a competition, offering fifty copies of the The Big Lebowski and Philosophy, a book which highlights the work of a man who many believe to be one of the foremost philosophical geniuses of our age.

Aspirants are entreated to go here and answer the question “What have you learned from The Big Lebowski?” to be in with a chance of winning.

This book could really tie your room together.

Sometimes there’s a book, well, it’s the book for its time and place. It just fits right in there. Joel and Ethan Coens’ `The Big Lebowski’ wasn’t universally appreciated when it was first released back in 1998, but since then a lot of new, philosophical, uhm, ideas have come to light. And these authors are, you know, privy to those insights, in the parlance of our times. Careful, man: there’s a bevy of good, insightful papers here.

Fans of the movie may have a set idea of what the movie, and the Dude, are all about. This book shows that there can be more than one interpretation, and that each can be solidly backed up with a heavy dose of philosophy. A solid entry in the “Philosophy and Pop Culture” series, this book will make true fans of the movie see it again as if for the first time… or first acid flashback.

    4★★★★ from me.
